If you are locked out of a digital electronic safe, the first step is to check the battery. Electronic safe lock mechanisms are entirely battery-powered, and a dead or weak battery is the most common reason the keypad stops responding. Many safes have an external battery terminal — a standard 9V battery held against the contacts on the outside of the safe can power the mechanism long enough to enter your code and open the door.
