What a Transponder Key Does
Modern vehicles use transponder keys with an embedded microchip that communicates with your car's ignition system. Without proper programming, a newly cut key simply won't start the vehicle, even if it turns in the lock.
This is different from a standard mechanical key, which only needs to be cut correctly. A transponder key has to be cut to match the lock and programmed to match the vehicle's immobilizer, so a locksmith working on transponder keys needs both cutting equipment and vehicle-specific programming tools. Programming methods vary by manufacturer and model year, which is why generic replacement keys bought online often won't start the car without the right equipment to pair them.

LockAngeles technicians carry programming equipment compatible with virtually all makes and models, from Ford to Nissan to Mitsubishi. We handle transponder key replacement and programming on-site, at competitive prices, so there's no need to visit a dealership and pay inflated rates.
